Planchonella costata is also known as Pouteria costata and the maori name is Tawapou.
It is an attractive coastal tree with glossy dark green foliage and large red-orange berries in Autumn.
It is fairly slow growing.
It is naturally found from North Cape toTolaga Bay on the east coast of the North Island but only as far as the Manukau Harbour on the west coast.
