Plants for containersWith an eye on urban applications, we have a guide to New Zealand native plants we highly recommend that work in pots, planters and restricted root environments. Species that are naturally found in the branches of other plants (epiphytes) tolerate dry conditions. Species that grow naturally in limited soil environments that form in cliffs and rocky ground, tolerate restricted root development. Bearing this in mind, it stands to reason that members of the genus Astelia are well suited to such conditions, as are the other plants except Scleranthus. Scleranthus on the other hand looks so great in a container but doesn't like to dry out in the Summer.
