Carex raotest is found naturally growing only on the West Coast of Auckland  and is not found on the East Coast. It does not get root rot like Carex testacea and will grow in sun or shade. In the sun it is orange and in  the shade it is a green colouring.It has broader leaves and bigger and longer culms than Carex testacea
