Carex lambertiana is probably the commonest Carex in Auckland's bush and scrub areas. It tolerates many soil types while found in abundance on gentle slopes with good moisture,it will also do well in dry scrub. Except for continual wet feet it will grow just about anywhere in shady conditions.
This robust tussock with wide bi-folded leaves and long dark spikes is perhaps the most attractive Carex of the Auckland region.
