Ribbonwood is a fast growing deciduous tree found thoughout New Zealand in lowland forest.

It is only semi-deciduous in Auckland.

The juvenile plant has a divaricating habit and smaller leaves than the adult form.

It has abundant small green flowers in the Spring.
