A dense groundcover with wiry stems and small dark green leaves.
Pohuehue flowers prolifically in Summer with masses of small creamy flowers.
Male and female flowers often occur on the same plant and the female flowers form small opaque white fruit.
It spreads along the ground and even underground.
Although this species is naturally found in rocky areas and riverbeds in the South Island and lower North Island, it grows well in Auckland.
It is not as vigorous as
Muehlenbeckia complexa.
