A small fast growing coastal tree with very large soft heart-shaped serrated bright green leaves.
It has a distinctive tropical appearance and grows in sheltered coastal valleys in the north of the North Island to the Bay of Plenty.
It has attractive white flowers in Spring which are followed by chestnut-like seed capsules.
