A distinctive tall forest canopy tree, found throughout New Zealand.
The juvenile form has a drooping pyramidal shape.
In the forest it can reach the height of up to 40 metres but it is very slow growing.
The rimu makes a excellent specimen tree.

- Prefers a rich moist soil.
- Provide shelter when young
- Provides food for native birds
