This tree is found throughout New Zealand in forest, usually in swampy areas.
The kahikatea is our tallest native tree and is relatively slow growing.
The juvenile foliage is brown changing to green as an adult tree.
Pollen bearing cones are found on male trees and female trees bear bright red fruit in Autumn.
