Tetragonia tetragonioides

New Zealand spinach, kokihi

A low growing, perennial, coastal groundcover.

It has oval fleshy leaves,  small insignificant yellow flowers formed from spring to Autumn and red berries.

Both the Tetragonia tetragonioides, NZ spinach and the NZ climbing spinach T. trigyna are found in coastal areas throughout New Zealand.

The young leaves and stems can be cooked and eaten as a vegetable.
