A native fern which forms a dense groundcover by creeping rhizomes.
Blechnum pennamarina is a common fern found throughout New Zealand in open grasslands, light scrub and forest margins.
The fronds are green but often show reddish tones in open situations.
The fertile fronds are very long with narrow, widely spaced leaflets.
Blechnum pennamarina is not found naturally in the Auckland Ecological Region.
