Baumea rubiginosa

Syn. Machaerina rubiginosa

 Baumea rubiginosa is now called Machaerina rubiginosa

A vigorous creeping rush with slender green rush like foliage and is used for revegetation of wetlands. It helps with erosion control.

It is found in swampy areas throughout the North Island and less common in the South Island.

The name rubiginosa refers to its reddish brown  seed heads.

All of the Machaerina species are robust plants with creeping rhizomes, and are particularly capable of growing in soils / water with high concentrations of contaminants and nutrients
