Sophora chathamica

Coastal Kowhai

Sophora chathamica is the coastal kowhai which flowers from late Winter to Spring.

It is distinguished from all other Kowhai species by the absence of a divaricating juvenile stage.

Primarily a species of coastal forest, often on cliff faces or banks overlooking estuarine rivers or inlets. Very common around Auckland

This species was once included as Sophora microphylla.
