Stems of white 3 petalled flowers are held above the leaves in Spring, followed by reddish to black seed capsules in the Autumn.

These seed capsules open almost immediately after ripening.

It is the flowers and the seed pods that distinguish the difference between Libertia ixioides and Libertia grandiflora, as both grow to the same height.

• Libertia ixioides has bright yellow seed pods remaining on the plant for months and the flowers are among the leaves.
