Pigeonwood, Porokaiwhiri

A small tree with attractive glossy dark green foliage, found in forests throughout the North Island and as far south as Banks Peninsula.

The bright orange-red berries are only on the female plants.
These ripen in Summer and are a favourite food of the native wood pigeon.
